Benefits
Builds total-body pulling strength. As a compound lift recruiting the hamstrings, glutes, back, and grip together under heavy load, the deadlift is one of the most efficient ways to build raw pulling strength.
Trains the posterior chain more completely than most single exercises. Few other lifts recruit the hamstrings, glutes, and entire back musculature in one coordinated movement.
Improves grip strength as a side effect. Because the bar must be held throughout a heavy pull, the deadlift is one of the best exercises for building functional grip strength without dedicated grip training.

How to Perform the Deadlift

Stand with feet hip-width apart, the bar over the middle of your feet, close enough to almost touch your shins. This bar position keeps the load close to your body’s center of gravity.

Grip the bar just outside your legs, using an overhand, mixed, or hook grip. A consistent grip width every set makes the lift more repeatable.

Breathing
